Gelato per Sofia

Sofia enters a small ice-cream shop. It is a hot day. The ice-cream shop is full of colors and it is cozy. There are many people. There is a light, sweet smell of fruit and sugar.

She looks at the sign with the flavours: strawberry, chocolate, lemon, pistachio. The colours shine in the display case.

She counts them: one, two, three, four. She feels a little nervous. It is her first ice cream in Italy.

The seller smiles. Sofia speaks slowly. “I would like two flavours, please.” “Strawberry and chocolate.” She raises two fingers. The seller smiles and prepares a cone.

He hands her the cone. “Two euros, please,” he says. Sofia pays. “Thank you,” she says. There is joy on her face. She takes the cone and feels proud. She tastes the ice cream. It is very good.
