Un barbecue in Sardegna

It is a sunny afternoon in Sardinia. David is on holiday with his family. They want to have a small barbecue near the beach. The sea is blue and calm. The children play in the sand. Everyone is hungry.

David takes the car. He drives to the village. He goes to the supermarket and enters. He takes a small basket at the entrance. The corridors are cool and quiet. He walks slowly and looks around. He reads the simple signs.

First he finds the meat. He sees sausages and chicken. He checks the date on the packages. He chooses small packages for lunch. He puts the meat into the basket. He smiles and thinks about the grill. He knows that his children love sausages.

Then he looks for the charcoal for the fire. The bag is heavy. He lifts the bag carefully. He thinks about the bread and the cheese. He goes into the nearby aisle. There is soft music in the shop.

He sees local cheese in the shop fridge. He takes a small piece of pecorino and finds two baguettes. He adds a big bottle of water and also takes a pack of tomatoes. In the end he buys a local beer for himself. Now he is ready.

At the checkout, a young woman smiles. David wants to try to speak Italian. He says “Good morning!” in a shy voice. She says “Good morning! On holiday?”. He says “Yes, on holiday in Sardinia.” She smiles and says “How nice!”

David pays with his card. The cashier gives David the receipt. He says “Thank you! Goodbye!” She says goodbye and smiles. David leaves the supermarket very happy. He drives to the family. They start the barbecue and eat together.
