When I travel in Italy, I like to begin in the city centre, because I can feel the atmosphere there right away. Sometimes I stop in an inner courtyard, far from the noise of the streets. Rome is a big city, but it can always offer a quiet corner.

When I go to Milan, I look for a comfortable place near the centre so I can move around without stress. I book a hotel or a hostel; it depends on the type of trip. If I arrive late, I leave the bags and look right away for a good place to eat. I choose a restaurant for a calm dinner, or a pizzeria if I want something simple. After dinner I go into a bar or a café, and I take the time to watch the city. Milan has many faces, and every evening seems different.

To plan the trip well, I look at the province and choose a place based on what I want to see. Sometimes I prefer a small town, because life there is slower. Other times I look for a nearby city, so I can move around easily. I trace a route and choose a transport line that brings me near the main points. When I have doubts, I also check the official site of the city for times and information. So the choice becomes simpler and I do not lose time.

When I travel, I use the most practical option, not the prettiest one. In the city I take the metro or the tram because they are fast and frequent. If I have to go far, I take the train, so I avoid traffic. When I arrive at the station, I check the board and look for my line. If I have to change, I get off at the right stop and wait calmly. With a good ticket and a bit of attention, transport options become simple.

Sometimes I travel by plane. I arrive early at the airport, I do the check-in, and I check the gate. I always have my ticket with me, and when it is needed, I also have a pass for public transport in the city. I put my suitcase on the belt and keep a small bag with the important things. In my backpack I keep documents, water, and a sweater, because on the plane it is cold. When I land, I pick up the luggage and look for the fastest way to get to the centre. If I am tired, I take a taxi without thinking too much.

If I travel by sea, I first check the port and the departure times. Sometimes I take a big ship, other times a smaller boat; it depends on the route. If I have to reach an island, the boat is often the more convenient choice. I like to watch the sea and think that, even inside the same nation, the experience can change a lot. Italy is part of a continent full of nearby cultures, and the borders tell different stories. When I return, I bring home not only photos, but also new habits.
