Ein gemeinsames Mittagessen

Anna and Lucy are two friends who have known each other for a long time. Today they eat lunch together in a restaurant in their hometown. They walk along a busy street and see a small café with a colorful sign. Inside it is warm, and the atmosphere is cozy. Plants stand on the window sills, and soft music plays. A waiter smiles and says hello. Anna and Lucy sit down at a table by the window and put their bags on the chairs.

The waiter brings them the menus. After a few minutes, they are ready to order. Anna orders tomato soup and a chicken sandwich. Lucy orders pasta with cheese and a green salad. They each order a lemonade.

They talk while they wait for the food. Anna tells Lucy about her new job in an office. She says, “My boss is nice, but the day is long.” Lucy listens and nods. Then Lucy tells Anna about her new dog. They both smile.

The waiter brings the drinks. The lemonade is cold, sweet, and tasty. Then the food comes. The soup smells good, and the pasta looks hot. They say, “That looks great,” and then they start to eat.

After a few minutes, Anna realizes she needs to go to the toilet. She puts her fork down and looks for the waiter. When he comes closer, she asks, “Excuse me, where is the toilet?” The waiter answers, “Down the hallway, then left, down the stairs, then the second door on the right.”

He points toward the hallway with his hand. Anna repeats the words in her head. She quietly says, “Down the hallway, then left, down the stairs, then the second door on the right.” Lucy smiles and tells her, “Yes, you can remember that.” Anna takes a deep breath, stands up, and thanks the waiter for the directions.

Anna goes down the hallway. The hallway is long and quiet, and there are pictures on the wall. At the end, she goes left and down the stairs, just like the waiter said. Down there, she stays standing and looks to the right. She sees a door and then a second door. She opens the second door on the right. It is the toilet. Anna is happy because she remembered the directions. After a moment, she washes her hands and goes back to the table.
