All’ufficio postale

Stefan, a tourist in Italy, walks into a small post office. It is quiet. There are two counters and a red post box for the mail. He is holding a postcard in his hand. He wants to send it home.

At the counter Stefan speaks politely, but he is a little unsure. “I would like a stamp for this postcard,” he says. The clerk understands, nods, and finds one.

This postcard is suitable for international mail. It costs seventy-five cents.

Stefan buys the stamp. He sticks the stamp in the top right corner. He checks the postcard again. He is happy with his message.

There is a red box near the door. He puts the postcard inside. He smiles with relief. He has done everything in Italian. The postcard is on its way.
