Anna in Panetteria

Anna is Dutch. She is in Rome. She is hungry. She sees a bakery and goes into the shop.

“Good morning!” the baker says. “Good morning!” Anna answers. The baker smiles. Anna looks at the bread. Everything looks good.

Anna wants to buy something. But she does not know the words. She points at the bread. “This one?” she asks. The baker understands.

“This is focaccia,” the baker says. He speaks slowly. “This is a croissant.” Anna listens. “Focaccia... croissant,” she repeats.

Anna points to the focaccia. “This one, please,” she says. Then she points to a croissant. “And this one.” The baker is happy.

“How much does it cost?” Anna asks. “Three euros,” the baker says. Anna pays five euros. “Here is the change.” Anna takes the two euros.

“Thank you!” Anna says. “You’re welcome, have a nice day!” the baker says. Anna goes out. She eats the croissant. She is happy - now she knows two new words!
